Amethyst with Epidote/Chlorite & Pyrite
Brandberg–Erongo region, Namibia
£47.50
Description
A richly coloured miniature with lustrous deep violet Amethyst crystals, contrasting dark Epidote/Chlorite coatings and bright metallic Pyrite.
This natural miniature presents a dense, dimensional cluster of deep violet to smoky-purple Amethyst crystals. Lustrous faces and varied terminations give the piece strong depth and visual interest from several viewing angles.
Dark green to near-black mineral coatings accent selected crystal faces, while bright brassy metallic Pyrite patches add vivid contrast. Lighter Quartz matrix remains visible around the edges and reverse.
The exact specimen is supplied with the protective display box shown. An Avalon validation card recording its identification, locality, weight and dimensions is also included.
Mineral identification: The associated minerals are recorded as Epidote/Chlorite and Pyrite. Conclusive identification would require analytical testing.
The contrasting coatings described for this specimen contribute to its texture and outline. They draw attention to the relationship between the featured crystals and the material around them. Areas of exposed crystal and covered growth give different reflections, adding interest beyond the main colour without requiring an identification of every small coating from appearance alone.
The recorded Pyrite contributes a metallic element to the association. Light reflects from its faces differently to the non-metallic growth around it, allowing small metallic areas to stand out within the specimen. That contrast is a useful part of the display and gives the piece interest for collectors of mixed mineral associations, as well as the principal species.
Amethyst is the violet variety of Quartz, so its colour and pointed crystal habit belong to the same mineral family as clear rock crystal. Violet colour is associated with iron-related features in the crystal structure and natural irradiation. Colour can vary within a single crystal, giving different impressions at the tips, edges and thicker parts of a group.
A cluster of Amethyst is interesting at two scales: the outline of the whole piece and the individual faces that make up its surface. Closely grouped crystals create a sparkling texture, while larger points give the specimen direction and shape. The balance between pale and darker areas is useful when comparing one Amethyst specimen with another.
The recorded origin is Brandberg–Erongo region, Namibia. The locality and mineral associations follow the information supplied with this specimen. Its individual growth and matrix provide the visual details described here.
The specimen measures 4.5 × 5 × 3 cm, with a recorded weight of 109 g. Its compact presentation makes it suitable for a boxed mineral collection, where the individual crystals and their association can be appreciated at close range.
Condition: Natural specimen with no known repairs or enhancement.
Support the matrix or the supplied mount when moving the piece, avoiding pressure on the Amethyst points. A shaded indoor display is a sensible choice for retaining its colour and keeping the fine crystal surfaces free from unnecessary handling.
