Description

A characterful lilac-to-smoky-purple Amethyst cluster with contrasting dark mineral coatings and small golden metallic Pyrite crystals, mounted and ready to display.

This natural miniature displays a dense cluster of well-formed Amethyst crystals in lilac, violet and smoky-purple tones. Numerous terminated points create a richly three-dimensional display face with bright reflections under changing light.

Dark green to almost black mineralisation, recorded as Epidote/Chlorite, coats and marks many of the Amethyst crystals. Small golden metallic Pyrite crystals are visible along one side, adding a further colour contrast and mineralogical detail.

The specimen is mounted on the clear bevelled acrylic base shown and supplied inside its protective display box. An Avalon mineral specimen validation card recording its identification, locality, weight and dimensions is also included.

At 4.5 cm across, it is a compact, ready-to-display miniature from Namibia’s respected Erongo mineral region.

Mineral identification: The dark associated mineral is recorded as Epidote/Chlorite. Separating these species conclusively would require analytical testing.

The contrasting coatings described for this specimen contribute to its texture and outline. They draw attention to the relationship between the featured crystals and the material around them. Areas of exposed crystal and covered growth give different reflections, adding interest beyond the main colour without requiring an identification of every small coating from appearance alone.

The recorded Pyrite contributes a metallic element to the association. Light reflects from its faces differently to the non-metallic growth around it, allowing small metallic areas to stand out within the specimen. That contrast is a useful part of the display and gives the piece interest for collectors of mixed mineral associations, as well as the principal species.

Amethyst is the violet variety of Quartz, so its colour and pointed crystal habit belong to the same mineral family as clear rock crystal. Violet colour is associated with iron-related features in the crystal structure and natural irradiation. Colour can vary within a single crystal, giving different impressions at the tips, edges and thicker parts of a group.

A cluster of Amethyst is interesting at two scales: the outline of the whole piece and the individual faces that make up its surface. Closely grouped crystals create a sparkling texture, while larger points give the specimen direction and shape. The balance between pale and darker areas is useful when comparing one Amethyst specimen with another.

The recorded origin is Brandberg–Erongo region, Namibia. The locality and mineral associations follow the information supplied with this specimen. Its individual growth and matrix provide the visual details described here.

The specimen measures 4.5 × 4.5 × 2 cm, with a recorded weight of 61 g. Its compact presentation makes it suitable for a boxed mineral collection, where the individual crystals and their association can be appreciated at close range.

Condition: Natural specimen with no known repairs or enhancement.

Support the matrix or the supplied mount when moving the piece, avoiding pressure on the Amethyst points. A shaded indoor display is a sensible choice for retaining its colour and keeping the fine crystal surfaces free from unnecessary handling.
