Description
A broad cluster of lustrous purple Amethyst points with dark centres, lighter lavender edges and scattered green mineral coatings.
This substantial Amethyst cluster has an open, three-dimensional arrangement of intergrown quartz points. Purple colour ranges from pale lavender at the edges to deeper violet and smoky tones toward the centre. Green patches provide a striking contrast, while the crystal faces catch light from multiple angles.
The supplied locality is the Brandberg–Erongo area of Namibia. The green mineralisation is described as Epidote and/or Chlorite; photographs alone cannot establish which mineral is present. The more precise mine and the coating identity have not been independently verified.
The contrasting coatings described for this specimen contribute to its texture and outline. They draw attention to the relationship between the featured crystals and the material around them. Areas of exposed crystal and covered growth give different reflections, adding interest beyond the main colour without requiring an identification of every small coating from appearance alone.
Amethyst is the violet variety of Quartz, so its colour and pointed crystal habit belong to the same mineral family as clear rock crystal. Violet colour is associated with iron-related features in the crystal structure and natural irradiation. Colour can vary within a single crystal, giving different impressions at the tips, edges and thicker parts of a group.
A cluster of Amethyst is interesting at two scales: the outline of the whole piece and the individual faces that make up its surface. Closely grouped crystals create a sparkling texture, while larger points give the specimen direction and shape. The balance between pale and darker areas is useful when comparing one Amethyst specimen with another.
The recorded origin is Attributed to Brandberg–Erongo, Namibia. Within a collection of Amethyst specimens, this locality gives the piece a geographical identity alongside its particular crystal habit and natural setting.
The specimen measures 14 × 10 × 5.5 cm, with a recorded weight of 958 g. The proportions give a useful guide to its place in a display, with the individual crystal arrangement and mineral association remaining the principal points of interest.
Condition: Described as natural and unpolished, with no repairs reported. The clear stand is pictured; please confirm with us whether it is included.
