Description
A compact, broad cluster of violet Amethyst crystals with a dense covering of dark green mineralisation and fine sparkling areas. Purple crystal faces emerge between the coatings, creating a richly textured display.
The supplied locality is the Erongo Mountains of Namibia. The green coating is described as Epidote / Chlorite, with Pyrite in the associated material. These mineral associations follow the supplied specimen information; their exact identity has not been confirmed by analysis.
The dimensions refer to the mineral specimen. The glass base and box are included.
At around 5 cm, this piece is a miniature specimen in my Thumbnail Box Collection. Please look closely at the photographs for natural edges, crystal surfaces and contact areas.
You will receive the exact specimen photographed. Colour may vary with lighting and screen settings.
The finer crystalline growth described here adds another scale of detail to the specimen. Many small faces contribute to the sparkling surface, while the larger outline establishes its overall form. That combination is worth appreciating beyond the main colour: surface texture, spacing and the distribution of growth all help distinguish this individual piece.
Amethyst is the violet variety of Quartz, so its colour and pointed crystal habit belong to the same mineral family as clear rock crystal. Violet colour is associated with iron-related features in the crystal structure and natural irradiation. Colour can vary within a single crystal, giving different impressions at the tips, edges and thicker parts of a group.
A cluster of Amethyst is interesting at two scales: the outline of the whole piece and the individual faces that make up its surface. Closely grouped crystals create a sparkling texture, while larger points give the specimen direction and shape. The balance between pale and darker areas is useful when comparing one Amethyst specimen with another.
The recorded origin is Erongo Mountains, Namibia. Within a collection of Amethyst specimens, this locality gives the piece a geographical identity alongside its particular crystal habit and natural setting.
The specimen measures 50 × 50 × 40 mm, with a recorded weight of 102.60 g. Its compact presentation makes it suitable for a boxed mineral collection, where the individual crystals and their association can be appreciated at close range.
Support the matrix or the supplied mount when moving the piece, avoiding pressure on the Amethyst points. A shaded indoor display is a sensible choice for retaining its colour and keeping the fine crystal surfaces free from unnecessary handling.
