In transit: Unavailable for purchase until arrival and inspection. Price is provisional.
Description
Two prominent smoky crystal points rise above a champagne-yellow body, with smaller crystals adding detail along the sides.
A substantial Brazilian quartz specimen with two prominent crystal points and smaller crystals growing along the body. Pale champagne and olive-yellow areas contrast with the darker smoky tips, creating a striking upright display.
Light passes through clearer areas to reveal internal textures, inclusions and changes in colour. Broad crystal faces reflect the light, while the surrounding smaller points give the piece detail from different angles.
Identification and locality: Supplied by Gavin as natural citrine from Brazil. The specific mine or region has not been supplied; the identification will be reviewed on arrival.
Treatment and condition: Not independently verified. Colour origin, surface finish, any polishing or repairs, weight and full dimensions will be reviewed after arrival.
Photographs and video: Temporary supplier images show this specimen. I will replace them with my own photographs after it arrives.
Quartz is silicon dioxide, a mineral whose familiar pointed crystals develop as material is added to growing faces. It occurs in many geological settings, including mineral veins and granite-related deposits. The variety of crystal lengths, orientations and degrees of transparency makes it an especially rewarding mineral to compare: pieces with the same composition can have very different natural architecture.
The glassy lustre of Quartz comes from light reflecting off its surfaces. Clear areas allow a view into the crystal, while internal fractures, veils and inclusions can scatter that light and create softer white regions. These features are distinct from the outer crystal faces. Studying both the interior and the outline adds another layer of interest beyond the familiar pointed shape.
The recorded origin is Brazil (supplier locality). The locality and mineral associations follow the information supplied with this specimen. Its individual growth and matrix provide the visual details described here.
The specimen measures 22 × 11 cm, with a recorded weight of 3 kg. Its scale gives the natural architecture room to be appreciated as a whole, while the finer growth provides detail for closer study.
Display: Photographed on a metal cradle with a clear square base. Stand inclusion will be confirmed on arrival.
For display, support the stable base or the supplied mount rather than a projecting crystal. Quartz is relatively hard, but pointed ends and natural contact areas can still be damaged by an impact. Gentle handling helps preserve the arrangement that gives this individual specimen its character.
