Description
An exceptional 9.12 kg cluster of translucent white Calcite with softly pink-toned areas, sharply developed rhombohedral crystals and pronounced stepped growth. Under UV light it shows a vibrant pink response.
This exceptional 9.12 kg mineral specimen features a dense cluster of sharply developed rhombohedral Calcite crystals. Translucent white areas, delicate soft pink tones, vitreous lustre and pronounced stepped growth create impressive depth and architectural form.
From a distance it is a commanding sculptural display. Closer inspection reveals layered crystal faces, smaller intergrown rhombs and subtle internal zoning. Multiple viewing angles show the scale and complex three-dimensional structure of the exact specimen offered.
Under ultraviolet light, the specimen fluoresces vivid pink in the supplied photograph. The UV image is shown separately from the neutral-light views; the response can vary with the wavelength and strength of the lamp.
At 340 × 240 × 140 mm and approximately 9.12 kg, it makes a substantial cabinet or gallery display. The professional acrylic and metal stand shown is included.
Locality: China. The supplied attribution is “Liufengshan Mine, Yong’an County, Fujian Province”, but published locality records place Liufengshan Mine in Guichi District, Anhui Province. The precise mine and province therefore remain unconfirmed pending a reliable original label or provenance document.
Handling: Support the mineral from below when moving it and avoid pressure on projecting crystals. Calcite is soft and sensitive to acids; dust gently with a dry soft brush.
The surface detail described for this specimen adds interest beyond its main outline. Steps, grooves or repeated growth lines help reveal the direction of the crystals and changes across their faces. Their reflections can differ from smoother areas, giving the piece a textured appearance that is useful to study alongside the overall arrangement.
Calcite is calcium carbonate, a mineral with an unusually wide range of crystal forms. It occurs in sedimentary rocks, mineral veins and many other geological settings. Although the composition remains broadly the same, differences in growth conditions can produce dramatically different outlines, from broad faces to slender or densely grouped crystals. This variety is part of its interest for a mineral collection.
Calcite has well-developed cleavage: it can split along particular planes in its crystal structure. Its natural growth faces and cleavage surfaces therefore deserve careful distinction. Transparent, translucent and more opaque examples all occur. The shape, arrangement and surface character of this piece are more informative than colour alone, especially when comparing specimens from different localities.
The recorded origin is China · Liufengshan attribution to confirm. Within a collection of Calcite specimens, this locality gives the piece a geographical identity alongside its particular crystal habit and natural setting.
The specimen measures 34 × 24 × 14 cm, with a recorded weight of 9.12 kg. Its scale gives the natural architecture room to be appreciated as a whole, while the finer growth provides detail for closer study.
Condition: Supplied as a natural, uncleaned specimen without repairs; this has not been independently verified. Inspect the detailed photographs for natural contacts and edge irregularities. You will receive the exact specimen shown.
Calcite is relatively soft and has pronounced cleavage, so support the stable part of the specimen when moving it. Avoid pressure on thin plates or projecting points. A secure display helps preserve the delicate edges and the arrangement of growth described for this piece.
