Malachite

Description

Rich forest-green Malachite forms an upright, sculptural specimen from Mindingi Mine in Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Rounded lobes and folded ridges are covered with fine radiating textures, creating a surface that reveals more detail as it is turned towards the light.

The raised growths catch lighter green reflections, while small cavities and recessed areas give depth to the darker portions. Several rounded formations gather along one side, balancing the broader upper section and giving the piece a distinctive outline from different viewpoints.
