Description
A landscape of green crystal-covered mounds, glittering points and shadowed hollows makes this Congo specimen captivating from every angle.
This 134 g specimen brings together rich green Malachite and a closely packed drusy crystal surface attributed to Quartz. Tiny crystal faces flash across the raised formations, while deeper recesses give the piece depth and a sculptural silhouette.
Pale crystal areas and exposed brown matrix frame the green display face. Measuring 90 × 50 × 40 mm, it is supplied as being from the Tenke-Fungurume area of Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The precise locality and mineral identification are based on supplier information and have not been independently verified.
The finer crystalline growth described here adds another scale of detail to the specimen. Many small faces contribute to the sparkling surface, while the larger outline establishes its overall form. That combination is worth appreciating beyond the main colour: surface texture, spacing and the distribution of growth all help distinguish this individual piece.
The recorded Malachite adds a second copper-mineral character to the specimen. Its green areas contrast with the other growth and help define boundaries, recesses and changes in texture. This relationship is an important part of the piece’s appeal: the minerals remain together on their natural setting, making it interesting for an association collection as well as for its principal mineral.
Quartz is silicon dioxide, a mineral whose familiar pointed crystals develop as material is added to growing faces. It occurs in many geological settings, including mineral veins and granite-related deposits. The variety of crystal lengths, orientations and degrees of transparency makes it an especially rewarding mineral to compare: pieces with the same composition can have very different natural architecture.
The glassy lustre of Quartz comes from light reflecting off its surfaces. Clear areas allow a view into the crystal, while internal fractures, veils and inclusions can scatter that light and create softer white regions. These features are distinct from the outer crystal faces. Studying both the interior and the outline adds another layer of interest beyond the familiar pointed shape.
The recorded origin is Tenke-Fungurume area, Lualaba Province, DR Congo. Within a collection of Quartz specimens, this locality gives the piece a geographical identity alongside its particular crystal habit and natural setting.
The specimen measures 90 × 50 × 40 mm, with a recorded weight of 134 g. The proportions give a useful guide to its place in a display, with the individual crystal arrangement and mineral association remaining the principal points of interest.
Condition: Good overall, with minor edge wear reported. Please examine the images for the exact condition. You will receive the specimen photographed.
For display, support the stable base or the supplied mount rather than a projecting crystal. Quartz is relatively hard, but pointed ends and natural contact areas can still be damaged by an impact. Gentle handling helps preserve the arrangement that gives this individual specimen its character.
