Tourmaline in Quartz
Karibib, Erongo, Namibia, Africa
£35
Description
A stout black Tourmaline crystal stands in strong contrast against a pale Quartz matrix. Its broad, lustrous face forms the focal point of the specimen, with fine lengthwise striations creating narrow bands of reflection across the dark surface. The compact crystal outline gives the composition a firm, geometric centre.
The Quartz provides a quieter setting, its pale granular texture breaking up the light around the Tourmaline. Where the two minerals meet, the difference between the reflective black crystal and the uneven host material becomes especially clear. This contrast is an important part of the piece’s character.
Irregular surfaces around the main crystal add texture beyond the principal face. As the viewing angle changes, the grooves and edges catch the light in different ways, bringing out the natural relief and making the association more engaging than the black-and-white contrast alone suggests.
